Chord Progression Generator

Pick a key and scale — get a chord progression you can play back right away.

How it works

Pick a root key, a scale, and an optional genre preset. The generator builds a set of diatonic chords — chords that belong to the key — and lets you play through them or tap individual chords. Modes include Major, Minor, Dorian, Phrygian, Lydian, and Mixolydian. Genre presets give you common progressions from Pop, Jazz, Blues, Rock, and EDM.

Frequently asked

What is a diatonic chord progression?
A progression where every chord belongs to the same key. All notes in all chords come from the chosen scale — so everything sounds harmonically consistent, no matter which order you play them.
What scales are available?
Major, Natural Minor, Dorian, Phrygian, Lydian, Mixolydian, and Locrian. Each has a different harmonic character.
How do the genre presets work?
Select a genre and click Generate. The tool picks a common chord progression from that style and sets it up ready to play.
Can I play individual chords?
Yes. Click any chord in the grid to hear it on its own, independent of the sequence.
Can I export the progression?
Playback is for reference. Use the note names shown to recreate the progression in your DAW or notation software.
