How it works

Vocals in a professionally mixed track are usually panned dead center — they appear identically in the left and right channels. This tool cancels out any signal that's identical in both channels, which removes the vocal and leaves the instrumental. Works best on stereo tracks with center-panned vocals. The result downloads as WAV.

Frequently asked

How does vocal removal work?
Vocals in a stereo mix are almost always panned to the center, so they appear identically in the left and right channels. Subtracting one from the other cancels any signal that's the same in both — which removes the vocal.
Will it work on every song?
It works best on stereo tracks with center-panned vocals. Mono files, heavy reverb on the vocals, or instruments sharing the center will give weaker results.
Does the file need to be stereo?
Yes. The tool needs two channels to work. A mono file will return an error.
What format is the output?
The instrumental downloads as a 16-bit WAV file at the original sample rate.
Is my file uploaded?
No. All processing runs locally in your browser. Nothing is sent to a server.
