How it works

Set a frequency with the slider or type an exact value, pick a waveform, and press play to hear a pure tone. Useful for testing speakers and headphones, checking the range of your hearing, finding resonances in a room, or tuning instruments against a reference pitch. Standard A = 440 Hz. Frequently asked

How do I use the tone generator?
Set a frequency with the slider or type it in, choose a waveform, and press Play. Adjust the volume so it is comfortable. Press Stop to silence it.
What are the waveforms for?
Sine is a pure tone (one frequency). Square, sawtooth and triangle add harmonics and sound brighter or buzzier — useful for testing or synth-style tones.
Can I test my hearing range?
Yes. Slowly raise the frequency toward 20,000 Hz; the point where you stop hearing it is roughly your high-frequency limit. Keep the volume low to protect your ears.
Why are very low or very high tones hard to hear?
Most speakers and headphones cannot reproduce the extremes, and human hearing typically runs about 20 Hz to 20 kHz, dropping with age. Quiet or missing tones at the edges are normal.
Is it safe for my ears and speakers?
Keep the volume moderate, especially at high frequencies and on loud gear. Start low and raise it gradually.
